Sree Narayana Arts and Science College Library

Sree Narayana Arts and Science College Library, a professionally organized and managed space dedicated to promoting academic excellence, provides students with a wide range of resources to support their learning and research. The library is divided into various sections, including circulation, newspaper reading, digital library corner, general reading area, periodicals, reference reading, book banks, and online access services. We are committed to offering a well-rounded collection of materials that cover a wide range of topics and disciplines.

Our collection includes over 7500 books, 25+ periodicals, 5+ newspapers, 199500+ e-books, 6000+ e-journals and print journals which are carefully curated to meet the needs of our students and faculty. Our online services for book search make it easy for students to find the materials they need quickly. We have implemented computerization to enable fast and efficient services to our students, and our library staff is always available to provide guidance and support. The Library building has an area of 2500.04 Sq.ft. and has ramps for easy and convenient access to differently abled users.

INFLIBNET E-Resources Facility

Sree Narayana Arts and Science College subscribes to the N-LIST programme, an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under the National Mission on Education through ICT.

The N-LIST project provides access to e-resources to students, researchers, and faculty from colleges. Authorized users from the college can access e-resources and download articles directly from publishers’ websites after authentication via servers deployed at the INFLIBNET Centre.

Library Timings

  • The Library is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on all working days.
  • Library circulation hours (issue, return, renewal, membership) are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Library will remain closed on Second Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays.

Book Loan Services

This service includes issue, return, renewal, and reservation of documents for library members at the circulation desk. Members are eligible to borrow books for home reading for a specified period.

Book search via the Online Public Access Catalogue (KOHA-OPAC) enables users to search the library’s book collection.

Literature Search

Library staff assists in searching the library for books, journals, etc. The Internet facility is also available, which serves as a gateway to literature. Conducting a literature search involves using web-based search engines such as Google, Google Scholar, or various electronic research databases.

Print Magazines and Journals Subscription

The library subscribes to subject-oriented journals and popular magazines based on the recommendations of the Library Advisory Committee and user requests.

Reference Service

The reference desk provides users with guidance to library materials, advice on collections and services, and access to expert resources like encyclopaedias, dictionaries, yearbooks, directories, etc.

Additional Services

  • Reprographic Services: Photocopying, scanning, and printing facilities are available for students and staff. All services comply with the provisions of the existing Copyright Law.
  • Book Bank Service: The library maintains a book bank primarily consisting of undergraduate textbooks to support students from economically and socially weaker sections.
  • Question Banks: Previous years' question papers are available in both hard and soft copies through D-Space.

D-Space

D-Space is the digital repository of our college. It contains collections of previous year question papers, student projects, photo archives of various events, and more.

Digi Library

Digital versions of library books are available. Members can access them using the systems provided in the library.

E-Journal Search

The Library Network Resource Centre offers an e-journal search facility through the N-LIST INFLIBNET platform.

CD/DVD ROM Search

Library users can use the CDs and DVDs available in the library for reference purposes.

INFLIBNET - N-LIST

N-LIST stands for “National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content”. It is funded by the MHRD to extend access to selected e-resources to colleges.

The browse and search interface allows users to search e-journals, back issues, and subscribed resources under the consortium for registered colleges. S.N. College is a member of INFLIBNET-NLIST. Users can search for journal titles, words in titles, and publishers. Separate usernames and passwords are provided for all users to access this facility.

Library Rules

  1. While entering the library, footwear should be left outside in the space provided.
  2. Personal belongings are not allowed inside the Library. They may be deposited at the property counter. White paper/notebooks may be taken inside for the purpose of taking notes.
  3. Use of mobile phones is not allowed inside the Library.
  4. All persons entering the Library should enter their details in the Entrance/Gate Register.
  5. Reference books, journals, and other periodicals will not be lent out but may be consulted in the Library.
  6. Strict silence shall be observed within the Library premises.
  7. Readers will be responsible for any damage caused to books or any library property while in their usage. When a book is issued, the reader must report any existing damage to the librarian; otherwise, it will be assumed the book was in good condition.
  8. If a book is damaged or lost, the member must replace it or pay its cost, including postage, within the time set by the librarian. If part of a set is lost or damaged, the entire set must be replaced if the exact volume is unavailable. Lost books that are later found cannot be returned for a refund or exchange.
  9. To borrow a book, locate it through the catalogue or with help from library staff.
  10. All users (students, teaching, and non-teaching staff) who fail to return books on or before the due date are subject to a fine of Rs.1/- per day.
  11. For loss of books, the following procedure applies:
    1. If available with suppliers, the book must be replaced with a new copy.
    2. If not available, compensation will be based on the following rates:
      • Ten times the face value for books published prior to 1946.
      • Six times the face value for books published between 1946 and 1970.
      • Three times the face value for all other cases.
      • If the book’s value cannot be determined from stock registers, compensation will be based on the market price of similar publications.
  12. Before borrowing books and other reading materials, students should produce their Identity Cards and Borrowers’ Tickets.
  13. Books will be issued on all working days.
  14. Books will be issued to the members of the staff from the Circulation Counter as per the norms. No staff member is allowed to keep more than 5 books at a time. All books should be returned or renewed on or before the due date.
  15. Exchange of books between students will not be allowed.
  16. The loan period is 14 days for students and others, including the date of issue. After this period, a fine of Rs.1/- per day per book will be charged.
  17. All books borrowed by students and teaching/non-teaching staff must be returned by 31st March each year for the annual physical stock verification of the library.
  18. Transfer Certificates will be issued and caution deposits refunded only after clearing all library dues.
  19. Staff members going on leave or being transferred must return all books borrowed from the library before proceeding on leave.
  20. The Principal and the Librarian have the authority to recall any book with 24 hours’ notice.
  21. Periodicals should be placed back in the same display section of the racks after use.
  22. Books should not be misplaced. If unsure about their exact location, they should be left on the designated table.
  23. All outgoing students must return borrowed books and library cards before the end of the academic year.

National Digital Library of India

The National Digital Library of India is a project under Ministry of Human Resource Development, India. The objective is to collect and collate metadata and provide full text index from several national and international digital libraries, as well as other relevant sources. NDLI has been developed by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur. It is a single window platform that collects resources from premier learning institutions in India and abroad and other relevant sources. It is open to all at free of cost.

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) has initiated the National Digital Library of India (NDL India) pilot project to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility. Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find out the right resource with least effort and in minimum time.
