ANTI-WOMEN HARASSMENT CELL
Introduction
Sree Narayana Arts and Science College, Kumarakom, has established an Anti-Women Harassment Cell with the primary objective of preventing and addressing incidents of sexual harassment and discrimination against female students and staff. The cell is comprised of a convenor and two members dedicated to providing support and guidance to those affected, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all. To date, there have been no reported incidents of harassment, but the committee remains committed to fostering a culture of safety and gender equality.
The committee also organizes awareness programs and annual events such as discussions, debates, and essay writing on relevant national and international observances, including Women’s Day, in collaboration with the Women Empowerment Cell.
Role of the Cell
- Prevent discrimination and harassment against women by promoting gender equality among students and staff.
- Address cases of sexual harassment and discrimination in a timely and effective manner, ensuring support for the victims and the cessation of harassment.
- Ensure appropriate actions are taken against offenders.
- Protect victims and witnesses from any form of victimization or discrimination due to their complaint.
- Take proactive measures to sensitize the college community on gender issues, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all.
- Recommend appropriate punitive actions against the guilty party.
Responsibilities of the Cell
- The cell processes complaints related to gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and any injustice faced by female students and employees.
- Provides assistance in taking preventive steps against gender-based discrimination and harassment.
- Ensures the fair and timely resolution of complaints, in alignment with the college’s norms and policies.
Functions of the Cell
- Complaints are received in written format by the convenor of the cell.
- The complainant is called for a personal meeting with the counselor within a week of submission.
- The cell members discuss the complaint after receiving a detailed report from the counselor.
- If the case falls outside the scope of the cell, it is directed to the appropriate authority.
- If within the purview of the cell, an enquiry committee is formed to investigate the matter.
- The committee submits its report and recommends suitable actions at the earliest.
- All proceedings are kept strictly confidential.
