Chemistry is mostly referred to as the central science because it joins together different fields of science such as physics and mathematics, biology and medicine, and the earth and environmental sciences. Knowledge of the nature of chemicals and chemical processes therefore provides insights into a variety of physical and biological phenomena.

About  

The Department of Chemistry of Sree Narayana Arts and Science College, Kumarakom, started functioning in the year 2005. It is a single faculty department. The Department handles complementary courses to BSc Physics students and Multidisciplinary courses of Food chemistry and nutrition to other streams of students. The department is well equipped with a laboratory with necessary instruments and infrastructure to perform experiments in physical chemistry, organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry  

Mission:

 The mission of the department is to create a concern for the environment and develop appreciation for green chemistry in each and every student. The mission also includes strong interaction with industry and other fields like food quality testing laboratories.

Goals:  

The chemistry department serves the purpose of imparting knowledge in the core science subject, which is a foundational building block for most engineering disciplines. The department encourages first generation learners to understand the basics and applications in chemistry. The department looks forward to imparting quality higher education to youthful minds of the college.
