DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM STUDIES

About  

The Department of Tourism Studies at Sree Narayana Arts and Science College, Kumarakom, was established in 2005 with the introduction of the BA Travel and Tourism course. Over the years, the program evolved into the Bachelor of Tourism Studies (BTS) and later transitioned to the Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management (BTTM) in 2017. Currently, the department offers a four-year Honors program in Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management (BTTM-Hons) with specializations in Aviation Management and Tour Operation Management. This evolution reflects the department's commitment to meeting the changing needs of the tourism and travel industry. This aligns with the department's vision of becoming a centre of excellence in tourism education and its mission to foster skilled professionals through high-quality, sustainable, and industry-relevant training.

Mission: To provide high-quality, industry-relevant education that fosters skilled professionals in tourism, aviation, and hospitality.

Program Structure:

BTTM-Hons.: The Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management Honors program provides specialized education in tourism and hospitality, with two core specializations:

  • Aviation Management: Focuses on managing airlines, airports, and related services.
  • Tour Operation Management: Prepares students for managing travel agencies, tour companies, and other tourism services.

Academic and Industry Excellence:

  • The department has produced top-ranking graduates since 2008.
  • Collaborates with government bodies such as the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) and the Department of Tourism, Kerala, providing students with practical exposure.
  • Engages in community-focused initiatives like Responsible Tourism, enhancing local community benefits and promoting Kerala as a responsible tourism destination.

Faculty and Placement Support:

The department boasts a team of expert faculty members who bring in-depth academic knowledge and industry experience to the classroom. Their guidance ensures that students are well-prepared for the dynamic tourism industry.

The department has a strong record of placing graduates in prestigious roles within the tourism and aviation sectors. Many students secure employment in airlines, travel agencies, tour companies, and hospitality firms.
